Warm Up Party
Hey what can you say, our town rocks! Where else in the world can you go to see such an awesome festival? The atmosphere is amazing, local businesses getting behind the festival with market sales, retro window displays, and far-out costumes and of course supporting the annual Seddon St Drag Race. The place where Te Aroha Dairy Queens can take on the Newmont Waihi Ladies, Dave Dodd Drainage Dollies, New World Ferns and the Banana Pepper ??. Vintage verses Retro and man can they move. The Hand Bag Relay and Drag Race both finishing at the Bra line. Yes the Bra line, donated by the lovely curvy ladies of Waihi.
In the spirit of community there is no place like home. Local Schools were also out in support of the event and to watch the Parade of Cars rolling into town, fundraising with sausage sizzles and selling raffles.
The golden weather was perfect, a cool breeze rolling down the street as the parade thundered into town to fill up more space than ever before. There where cars parked in all the side streets, down to the local RSA and all the way up to the Historic Cornish Pump House. The variety of cars is astounding. Everything from early Model A’s & T’s most Chopped, Cropper or topped, right through the years every car imaginable, and the paint jobs and polished chrome are breathtaking.
We had a blast and are proud to be part of this little town, Our town.
Thanks to the Beach Hop crew & sponsors, Gold FM and the local community. See you again in 2012.
